Members of Parliament from the Minority Caucus have lauded Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin for sponsoring a capacity-building training programme that took them to Canada.

The commendation was led by the Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe and Second Deputy Minority Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, during the ongoing programme in Ottawa, where the MPs are participating in intensive training sessions.

As part of the engagement, the MPs paid a courtesy call on Ghana’s High Commissioner to Canada, Professor Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh, at her official residence in Ottawa.

The visit, according to Ahmed Shaib, provided a platform for the caucus to engage directly with Ghana’s diplomatic mission in Canada and gain broader insights into national issues beyond parliamentary proceedings.

The discussions with the High Commissioner he stated centered on key areas of national and bilateral importance, including Ghana’s development priorities and strategies to strengthen the country’s international relations.

The welfare of Ghanaians living in Canada also featured prominently in the discussions, with both sides exploring practical ways of addressing challenges affecting the diaspora community.

The engagement further examined opportunities to deepen the longstanding relationship between Ghana and Canada, with emphasis on enhancing cooperation for mutual benefit.

He described the interaction as insightful and impactful, stressing that such engagements contribute to shaping policies that improve the lives of Ghanaians both locally and abroad.

He expressed gratitude to Her Excellency Professor Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh for the warm reception and fruitful discussions.

The Weija-Gbawe MP also expressed appreciation to the Minority Leader for making the training programme possible, terming it as a valuable initiative that continues to strengthen the capacity of Members of Parliament.
