NPP primaries: Fumso polling station executives declare support for KT Hammond

January 22, 2024
Reading Time: 2 mins read

Over 40 polling station executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Fumso electoral area in the Adansi Asokwa constituency have declared their unflinching support for the Member of Parliament for the area, KT Hammond ahead of the party’s parliamentary primaries on January 27.

Convener for the group, Isaac Afful, made the announcement at a press conference held recently.

He stated that they will vote massively for Mr. Hammond in order to preserve the votes for the NPP in the constituency and for the MP to continue his “good works.”

The press conference was a reaction to a protest against the incumbent MP at Adansi Fumso on Friday, January 19, 2024.

According to Mr. Afful, the protest was led by some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against KT Hammond.

He described the allegations levelled against the MP as false and malicious, targeted at making Mr. Hammond unpopular ahead of the primaries.

“The lady Agnes Aculey and the gentleman Franklin Yamoah, seen in the video sending a warning to the delegates towards the upcoming parliamentary elections, are well-known NDC members holding positions as Women’s Organizer in Market Square 3 Fumso and Communication Team Member, respectively. Yaw Ofori, who claims to be a member of the NPP, has been anti-KT since 2012. So his actions are not new to us,” he claimed.

He further debunked claims that the Minister of Trade and Industry has done little for the Fumso electoral area.

Explaining further, he said Fumso as a community has benefited greatly from the MP, calling on delegates to ignore such accusations against the MP.

He, however, mentioned some of the projects the MP has embarked on in the region in the area of education, health, electricity, and roads, of which 100 kilometres of asphalt roads have been constructed from Fumso to Adansi Aboabo No1.

He again accused the protestors of doing the bidding of Sammy Binfoh, a closer contender of KT Hammond in the Parliamentary primaries.

He said, “The awarding of new major contracts which takes effect this year has become a great worry and headache to the N.D.C fraternity. And therefore, pretending to be sympathizers of Mr. Sammy Binfo, as they shall have no message against our minister in the general elections.”

KT Hammond, who entered Parliament in January 2001, will be going into the contest with three other contestants, namely: Sammy Binfo Darkwa, Kwabena Asamoah, and Dr. Boakye Acheampong.
