Election 2024: Avoid actions that will undermine Ghana’s peace – Rev. Wengam

The General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, Reverend Stephen Wengam, has admonished church members and Ghanaians to avoid actions that could undermine the country’s democracy and peace as the 2024 general elections approach.

Reverend Wengam emphasised the importance of preserving the democratic process, urging congregants to be peacemakers in their communities.

Reverend Wengam made these remarks during the 31st Biennial General Council meeting of the church, held at the CK Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) in Navrongo, Upper East Region.

The church, which has a rich 93-year history dating back to its establishment in Yendi, is currently undergoing a transformative phase.

Reverend Wengam shared that their new agenda includes reaching every community in Ghana with the word of God, enhancing pastoral capacity, and investing in infrastructure development. This strategic shift, he said, aims to expand the church’s impact not only within Ghana but also in neighbouring countries.

“With a current membership of 715,000 in Ghana, 20 million across Africa, and 85 million globally, the Assemblies of God is poised to significantly impact communities across the nation,” Rev. Wengam said.

He mentioned that the transformation agenda aims to make the church more attractive to the youth and middle class.

He also highlighted the church’s achievements in education and social development.

“Our church in Ghana has established 364 basic schools and plans to expand educational opportunities, especially in deprived areas, through our NGO, AG Care,” he said.

AG Care is recognised for its work in three key thematic areas: livelihood empowerment and vocational skills training, access to quality education through child sponsorship and business school support, and health services focusing on preventive and curative care.
