Legendary Ghanaian actress Grace Omaboe, better known as Maame Dokono, marked her 80th birthday in style with a grand celebration.

Maame Dokono turned 80 years old in June 2024 but crowned the 80th-anniversary celebrations with the launch of her book dubbed ‘Unforgettable Maame Dokono’ on Saturday, September 7.

The star-studded event drew a crowd of celebrities and dignitaries to the Underbridge in East Legon.

The evening was filled with glitz and glamour as Maame Dokono, dressed in a stunning blue-sparkling ensemble, was surrounded by her former colleagues and industry peers for the ceremonial cake cutting.

The giant cake, a centrepiece of the celebration, was a fitting tribute to the iconic actress.

The event, hosted by popular comedian DKB, saw attendees enjoy the festive ambience and pay tribute to the actress’s remarkable career.

Notable personalities who graced the occasion included Nana Ama Mcbrown, David Dontoh, Prophet Kofi Oduro, Adwoa Smart, Abeiku Santana, Christine Doe Tetteh, and many others.

Maame Dokono has graced the silver screens of many Ghanaians over five decades with her exceptional acting skills in movies and drama performances.

She has been a household name and was the face of Ghana’s most popular drama series on television dubbed Akan Drama and the lead actress of the Obra Drama Group. The iconic mother of six also starred in over 50 movies.

Her storytelling television program ‘By the Fireside’ excited viewers, especially the younger ones who were always anticipating the next edition.

Aside from her acting career, Maame Dokono hosted very important radio and television talk shows that addressed pertinent social and human rights issues. She also has three music albums to her credit.

Her passion and compassion for the vulnerable motivated her to establish the Peace and Love orphanage to take care of orphans and the less privileged children in Ghanaian society.
