Fifty children from Kulnyevila, a suburb of Tamale, have received a donation of goats, school bags, and mango seedlings to support their educational and financial futures.
The initiative aims to help the children and their families develop long-term economic stability by rearing goats and planting mango trees.
The goats, which are to be reared with support from the parents of the beneficiary children, are intended to multiply over time, with some of the animals sold to meet the needs of the future leaders.
Speaking at the donation event held at Kunyevila T I Ahamaddiya primary school, on Thursday, October 24, Michael Anyekase, Project Manager of the “Buy Me a Goat Project,” announced that a total of 400 pupils across the Upper East, Upper West, North East, and Northern regions have benefited from this initiative in 2024 alone.
Mr. A.H. McClaugherty, a USA Rotary International member and founder of the “Buy Me a Goat Project,” urged parents to take proper care of the goats to ensure they multiply, providing a lasting source of financial support for their children.
He emphasized the importance of this investment in eliminating future poverty gaps.
“I want to ensure that these children have some form of financial support as they grow. I urge the parents to take good care of their children’s goats so they can multiply,” he said.
Mr. McClaugherty also highlighted the significance of the mango seedlings, explaining that they would provide both food and a source of income for the children as the trees mature and bear fruit.
Rufai Shamsu-deen, a parent of one of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to Mr. McClaugherty and his team for the generous support and appealed for the program to be expanded in the coming years to reach more children.
