Bulk Energy Storage and Transportation Limited (BOST) and its Managing Director, Dr Edwin Provencal, were recognised for their outstanding contributions to Ghana’s petroleum industry at the 8th Ghana Energy Awards.

BOST was named “Company of the Year-Petroleum,” while Dr. Provencal was awarded “CEO of the Year—Petroleum.” The awards reflect the company’s progress, following a series of both local and international accolades for its transformation in recent years.

At the 2024 Africa Public Sector Conference and Awards (APSCA), BOST was listed among Africa’s “Top 50 Innovative Public Sector Agencies” for its exceptional innovation in public service delivery. The company also won the “Legacy Petroleum Storage Company of the Year 2023” award at the Made in Ghana Awards (MIGA), organized by the Entrepreneurs Foundation of Ghana.

Dr. Provencal has also been lauded individually, receiving the “Transformational CEO of the Year” award at APSCA for his commitment to public sector innovation and the “Distinguished Public Sector CEO of the Year 2023” award at MIGA.

The back-to-back recognitions highlight BOST’s remarkable recovery under Dr. Provencal’s leadership. Once burdened by debt, the company has staged a turnaround and is now regarded as one of Ghana’s leading state-owned enterprises (SOEs).

Over the past three years, BOST has posted a cumulative profit of GHS 710 million. The company recorded a profit of GHS 208 million in 2023, following GHS 342 million in 2022 and GHS 160 million in 2021. BOST’s equity position also improved, rising from a negative GHS 248 million in 2021 to a positive GHS 277 million in 2023, driven by prudent management practices.

The 8th edition of the Ghana Energy Awards, held in Accra under the theme “The Role of Local Content in Building Ghana’s Energy Sector,” celebrated achievements driving growth and innovation in the energy industry.

Since its inception in 2017, the awards—organised by the Energy Media Group (EMG) and endorsed by the Ministry of Energy and the World Energy Council Ghana—have recognised individuals, companies, and institutions for their contributions to the sector and the national economy.

The 2024 edition featured 25 competitive categories, including “Energy Personality of the Year” (male and female), “CEO of the Year” (Power and Petroleum), and the “Visionary Leadership Award,” alongside four non-competitive categories.
