George Opare-Addo, the Minister-Designate for Youth Development and Employment, has openly acknowledged his membership in Freemasonry, a global fraternal organization.
Appearing before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on January 22, 2025, Opare-Addo addressed questions about his affiliation, affirming the values and principles he has embraced through the organization.
“Yes, I’m a Freemason,” he stated candidly.
When asked whom he places his trust in during difficulties and dangers, he responded, “The grand architect of the universe,” a phrase commonly associated with Freemasonry’s spiritual philosophy.
His disclosure prompted a brief exchange among committee members, with some seeking clarity on how his association with Freemasonry might influence his public service.
The admission has sparked mixed reactions. While some have lauded his transparency, others have raised concerns about the potential implications of his affiliation.
Despite the varied responses, Opare-Addo remains focused on his goals, reaffirming his commitment to youth empowerment and advancing Ghana’s development agenda as he awaits confirmation for the ministerial role.
