Ken Thompson, former CEO of Dalex Finance, has called on the government to make tourism a priority by developing a dedicated tourism strip to drive economic growth and job creation.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face on Tuesday, Thompson passionately outlined his vision for a vibrant tourism hub that could transform the sector and boost employment opportunities.

“Two things in terms of the economy are agriculture and tourism as a service,” Thompson stated. “If I were Ato [Forson], I would build a strip. Tourism can create a lot of jobs.”

He proposed constructing a tourism corridor stretching from Riviera to the Art Centre, fully equipped with essential infrastructure such as water and electricity to support businesses and attract visitors.

Thompson stressed the need to integrate restaurants, bars, and recreational activities to make the strip a lively destination for both locals and tourists. He argued that such an initiative would be a game-changer for the economy.

“Build a two-mile road, get restaurants, bars, recreational activities—that alone will create a lot of jobs,” he explained. “You will be amazed at the number of jobs this will create. We have to build the strip.”

His proposal highlights tourism as a largely untapped economic opportunity in Ghana, urging policymakers to consider strategic investments that could generate employment and boost national revenue.
