The University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) has entered a new era with the appointment of Professor Ernest Yaw Tweneboah-Koduah as Dean, marking a momentous chapter in the institution’s history.

He succeeds Professor Justice Nyigmah Bawole, whose two-term leadership left an indelible legacy of innovation, academic growth, and institutional strengthening.

In a groundbreaking first, Prof. Tweneboah-Koduah becomes the inaugural faculty member from the Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship to ascend to the deanship of UGBS.

His appointment is widely regarded as both a personal and institutional milestone, heralding the rising prominence of marketing as a discipline not only within the university but also across Ghana’s evolving economic and academic landscape.

A distinguished academic and alumnus of UGBS, Prof. Tweneboah-Koduah holds a BSc in Administration and an MPhil in Marketing from the Business School, and earned his PhD from London Metropolitan University in the UK.

With over 18 years of dedicated service to the university, he has established himself as a formidable scholar, administrator, and mentor.

His leadership at the Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship has been transformative. Twice appointed Head of Department, he was instrumental in laying the foundational structures that elevated the department’s research profile and academic relevance.

Under his guidance, the department became a centre of excellence for innovation, experiential learning, and community engagement. His rise to the deanship not only cements the department’s influence within UGBS but also reflects the growing strategic importance of marketing in governance and business.

Prof. Tweneboah-Koduah’s contributions extend far beyond his department. He has chaired key strategic committees across the University of Ghana, including the Safety and Security Services Committee and the Marketing and Communications Committee. As coordinator of flagship programmes such as the MA Marketing Strategy, Executive MBA, and Weekend MBA Marketing, he introduced forward-thinking reforms that boosted enrolment, refined curricula, and deepened ties with industry.

A prolific scholar, Prof. Tweneboah-Koduah is a leading voice in the field of social marketing and behaviour change. He has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications that explore critical themes in public policy, health promotion, non-profit marketing, and entrepreneurship. His work has been featured in respected international journals including the Journal of Social Marketing, Journal of Small Business and Enterprise Development, and International Journal of Bank Marketing.

His academic achievements are underpinned by a strong moral and spiritual foundation. An Elder of the Church of Pentecost and a worshipper at the Pentecost International Worship Centre, Atomic, Accra, Prof. Tweneboah-Koduah exemplifies a leadership style grounded in faith and service.

His commitment to societal betterment is reflected in his roles on the Council of the Bible Society of Ghana and several corporate and educational boards.

His appointment as Dean of UGBS marks a transformative moment, not just for the institution, but for the nation. It reinforces the message that marketing is a core driver of innovation, governance, and economic empowerment.

As Ghana navigates a rapidly evolving economic and digital landscape, the leadership of Prof. Tweneboah-Koduah’s experience, insight, and integrity is not only timely but vital for the strategic goals of the Vice Chancellor.

In Prof. Tweneboah-Koduah, UGBS has found a leader who embodies scholarship, service, and spirituality, anchoring the Business School’s next chapter in excellence, inclusivity, and visionary growth, continuing the long-standing tradition of the previous leadership of UGBS.
