Prudential Life Insurance Ghana has officially launched the sixth edition of its flagship cycling event, ‘PruRide’ in Accra.
The initiative, which began in 2014, aims to promote healthy living, environmental sustainability, and community participation through cycling.

Speaking at the launch on Friday, June 27, Jane Dornkuor Mingle, CEO of Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, emphasised that this year’s edition will feature a “fun ride” rather than a competitive race.
The change was made to ensure broader participation, especially among children, women, and individuals who may have felt excluded due to the intense nature of past competitions.
“We’ve moved from an amateur race to a fun ride so that everyone feels comfortable participating. We want children, women—everyone—to feel safe and excited about taking part. It’s about promoting a healthy lifestyle, not just winning,” she explained.
The CEO highlighted Prudential’s long-term vision for PruRide: to inspire Ghanaians to embrace cycling not just as a sport, but as a lifestyle that benefits both personal health and the environment.
“As a business, we’re strongly committed to sustainability. Cycling reduces carbon emissions, and it’s a great alternative to driving. We want to get to a point where people start owning bicycles and using them regularly—not just during events like this,” she added.
Mrs Dornukuor also called on the media and other organisations to support the ride through strategic partnerships.
“We can’t do this alone. Prudential is an insurance company, but we need experts in media, logistics, and event planning to help amplify the impact. It’s through collaboration that this can become a national movement,” she said.

PruRide has seen steady growth over the years, attracting larger numbers and stronger partnerships.
The Ghana Olympic Committee has joined the list of collaborators, signaling the growing influence and recognition of the initiative.
This year’s event is scheduled to take place on August 31, 2025, at the Black Star Square in Accra. Registration is currently open to both professional and amateur cyclists, as organizers seek to make the ride more inclusive and fun-filled than ever before.
On safety, the organisers are assuring the public that Ghana Police Service, medical teams, and ambulance services will be present on race day to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants as the event will also be held on a public holiday to minimize traffic disruptions.
With a renewed focus on health, sustainability, and community inclusion, the 2025 PruRide promises to be more than just a cycling event—it is a step toward a healthier and greener Ghana.
