Ghana Hotels Association confident in capacity as tourist numbers rise

The Ghana Hotels Association says it is well-positioned to accommodate a potential surge in international visitors, even if the number of hotel guests were to double this year.

The Association affirms that the industry has sufficient capacity to host tourists from around the globe.

According to the Ghana Tourism Authority’s 2024 report, international arrivals reached 1.29 million, representing a 12% year-on-year increase. The figures reinforce Ghana’s reputation as one of West Africa’s leading travel destinations.

Speaking to Citi Business News, President of the Ghana Hotels Association, Dr. Edward Nyamike, noted that while the current infrastructure can support growing demand, the sector remains open to investments aimed at expanding hotel capacity, especially to address potential pressure during peak seasons.

“We have the capacity to accommodate that number—and even more,” he said. “Although increasing the number of rooms and beds is part of our long-term strategy, it is not solely in response to this current trend.

“During peak periods, we must consider expansion and ensure we maintain quality standards across the board. The beds are available, and we could even host double the current figures. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t continue to invest in additional capacity,” Dr. Nyamike underscored.
