Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has appealed to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to show leniency towards staff nurse, Bernice Aboagye, who was recently queried for allegedly making offensive remarks about him on social media.

In a statement issued on Sunday, October 12, 2025, and signed by Tony Goodman, Head of Health Training Institutions and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, the Ministry acknowledged receipt of the query letter circulating online and commended the Service for upholding professional standards and the Code of Conduct governing health workers.

Mr. Akandoh, however, urged the Service to temper justice with mercy, stressing the need to create space for constructive criticism and divergent views within the health sector.

“Both the Minister and the government welcome divergent views and constructive criticism as part of the commitment to fostering tolerance and openness to diverse opinions,” the statement said.

He also encouraged health workers to express their concerns responsibly and respectfully without resorting to insults, noting that healthy dialogue contributes to the sector’s development.

The Ministry further clarified that it does not oppose demonstrations, describing them as legitimate expressions of frustration and a constitutional right. It, however, cautioned against the use of abusive language or indiscipline during such actions.

It also reminded health professionals to exercise circumspection in their public communications and social media engagements.
