The Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has distanced itself from the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) due to what it describes as consistent exclusion from key decision-making processes.
Takyie Addo, head of Communication for the association, voiced strong grievances during a media address on Sunday, December 14, highlighting a series of concerns that have emerged recently.
In particular, Mr Addo expressed dissatisfaction with GUTA’s decision to inaugurate a new president without inviting or consulting with Abossey Okai, one of Ghana’s largest and most influential business bodies.
He pointed out that such decisions are being made without the involvement or awareness of the Abossey Okai association, which he believes undermines the interests of its members.
“This is not just a matter of a missed invitation,” Mr Addo explained. “It is a sign of ongoing neglect by GUTA, a failure to recognise our association’s significant role in the broader business community.”
He added that GUTA’s decision-making process has been running without the inclusion of the Abossey Okai leadership, which raises serious concerns about the lack of consultation with one of its key stakeholders.
As a result of these unresolved grievances, Mr Addo declared that the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association would no longer participate in any GUTA activities or decisions.
He emphasised that the association will not collaborate further until GUTA executives acknowledge their role and include them in future decisions that directly affect their operations.
“This decision will certainly have an impact on GUTA’s ability to form effective and representative policies,” Mr Addo warned. He stressed that until the leadership of GUTA respects the role of the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association, the ties between the two organisations would remain severed.
