Three people have been confirmed dead following an accident on the Offinso–Techiman road in the Ashanti Region.

The crash occurred on the evening of Monday, January 12, 2026, involving a Suzuki Carry truck, popularly known as ‘Abossey Okai Macho’, and a trailer, both travelling towards Techiman.

Eyewitness accounts indicated that the accident happened near a bridge when an overtaking vehicle suddenly cut across the two vehicles.

In an attempt to avoid a collision, both drivers swerved. The manoeuvre caused the trailer to overturn, while the Suzuki Carry driver, trying to escape being crushed, rammed head-on into the bridge.

The impact triggered a fire outbreak, causing the Suzuki Carry to burst into flames. The driver and a trader whose goods were being transported to Techiman were burnt beyond recognition.

The trailer was carrying the driver and his mate. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital, where the driver was pronounced dead on arrival. The mate, who sustained severe injuries, is currently receiving treatment.

Confirming the incident to Citi News on Tuesday, January 13, the Afigya Kwabre North Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Kwame Yaro, said the victims trapped in the burning vehicle screamed for help, but bystanders were unable to assist as they awaited the arrival of the fire service. By the time firefighters arrived, the victims had been consumed by the flames.

“Yesterday, around 8, we heard an accident had occurred at Offinso. By the time we got there, we saw two people on the Abossey Okai Kia shouting for help. There was no fire extinguisher, and by the time the GNFS arrived, they were already gone and burnt to the extent that we couldn’t recognise them,” he said.
