The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Birim Central, Solomon Brako Kusi, has pledged to dedicate 30% of his monthly salary to sponsor skills acquisition training for 20 young men and women in Akim Oda.

According to him, the personal commitment to youth empowerment is aimed at ensuring that more young people acquire employable skills and become self-reliant before the end of his tenure.

He made the commitment during the presentation of learning kits to the first batch of beneficiaries under the National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP) at Akim Oda in the Eastern Region on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

He said: “This programme is a clear demonstration of the commitment of John Dramani Mahama to empowering the youth through skills development and job creation. This presentation affirms that this is a promise fulfilled—one that will transform lives and create opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.”

Mr. Kusi encouraged the beneficiaries to take the opportunity seriously and remain focused on their goals.

“I want to encourage the beneficiaries to have a purpose in life. Let the opportunity be the foundation for your future. Set clear goals and work diligently towards achieving them,” he stated.

He further advised them to show respect to their trainers and remain disciplined throughout the apprenticeship period.

“Respect your Masters and Madams. They are your mentors, and their experience, correction and guidance would shape your success. Again, be disciplined. Punctuality and commitment would distinguish you and open greater doors in life,” he added.

Addressing the trainers, he urged them to see the apprentices as future drivers of the local economy.

“To Masters and Madams, please see these apprentices not just as trainees, but as the future of our local economy. I urge you to guide the apprentices with patience, integrity and dedication, and to instill in them not only technical skills but also strong work ethics, professionalism and a spirit of excellence.

Reaffirming his pledge, Mr. Kusi stated, “As a demonstration of my personal commitment to youth empowerment, I pledge to dedicate 30 percent of my salary to sponsor 20 additional apprentices before the end of my tenure.

“This is my modest contribution to ensuring that more young people acquire employable skills and become self-reliant. Together, let’s build a skilled, empowered and economically independent generation. Let us continue to support this noble initiative for the development of our municipality and the progress of our nation.”
