President John Dramani Mahama has lauded the Ghana Police Service for recent operations that led to the arrest of dangerous criminals, saying the efforts have bolstered public trust and security across the country.
Delivering the 2026 State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Friday, February 27, President Mahama commended the Ghana Police Service for its proactive work.
“I want to take this opportunity to commend the IGP and the police service for arresting and bringing dangerous criminals to book across the country,” he said.
The remarks follow the police announcement on Monday, 23 February 2026, regarding the capture of members of a notorious car-jacking syndicate, known as the Duku Syndicate, linked to multiple murders in the Ashanti and Western regions.
The group was implicated in the robbery and killing of Eric Amankwa, the father-in-law of GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi, and the murder of the driver of the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers, whose vehicle was also stolen.
Police operations, driven by intelligence-led investigations, resulted in the arrest of the suspects at various locations across the Ashanti Region. Authorities revealed that the syndicate had been preparing another robbery on 23 February but were intercepted before they could carry out the plan.
