Transport minister inspects Terminal 2 upgrade at Accra Int’l Airport

Ghana’s Transport Minister, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has inspected ongoing renovation works at Terminal 2 of Accra International Airport, assuring airlines and other aviation stakeholders that the government is committed to improving the country’s main aviation hub.

Nikpe said the remodelling of Terminal 2 forms part of broader efforts to position the airport as a competitive aviation hub in West Africa and across the continent.

The minister made the remarks during a tour of the facility to assess progress on works aimed at upgrading the terminal to support both domestic and international flights.

“This project is part of the government’s commitment to delivering an efficient and functional airport capable of connecting passengers across the world,” he said.

Officials say the project will also allow some airlines to relocate to Terminal 2 as part of a wider plan to reduce congestion at existing terminals and improve the passenger experience.

The Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limited, Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, said the refurbishment would enhance the airport’s facilities and systems while improving passenger flow.

“The remodelling of Terminal 2 will aesthetically enhance the airport, improve facilities and systems, attract more passengers and make the travel experience more seamless and enjoyable,” she said.

The inspection tour allowed airline representatives expected to move their operations to the terminal to review passenger flow areas and raise concerns while construction continues.

Airport authorities say the project is expected to be completed by the third quarter of this year and will accommodate both international and domestic airlines.

While the arrivals areas for both domestic and international operations have already been completed, work is still ongoing on the departures area, the terminal façade, and sections designated for people meeting arriving passengers.
