Ghana has received its first new military helicopter, with three more expected to join the fleet, President John Dramani Mahama has announced.

The President disclosed this during the presentation of credentials by five new envoys to Ghana, including H.E. Diarra Dime Labille, Ambassador-Designate of France, on Monday, March 30, 2026.

He said the acquisition, facilitated with the support of French President Emmanuel Macron, is aimed at strengthening the air capacity of the Ghana Armed Forces, which has relied on an ageing fleet in recent years.

“With the kind intervention of President Macron, we have led a new acquisition of helicopters—four in total. One has been delivered, and we have a timetable for the delivery of the others. This is to help the air capacity of the Ghana military, which had been quite degraded over the years,” President Mahama said.

He also expressed appreciation to Eurocopter for fast-tracking the supply of the aircraft.

The delivery of the new helicopters is expected to enhance the operational readiness and rapid deployment capabilities of the Ghana Armed Forces.

President Mahama said the modernisation of the air fleet reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen national security and address gaps created by years of reliance on outdated equipment.

Meanwhile, the five envoys who presented their credentials were:

  1. H.E. Diarra Dime Labille, Ambassador-Designate of France
  2. H.E. Rui Orlando Ferreira De Ceita Da Silva Xaxier, Ambassador-Designate of the Republic of Angola
  3. H.E. Ndiyakupi Nghituwamata, High Commissioner-Designate of the Republic of Namibia
  4. H.E. Jacquiline Natepi Ben Lochalamoi, Ambassador-Designate of the Republic of South Sudan
  5. H.E. Cong Song, Ambassador-Designate of the People’s Republic of China
