The Ghana Football Association has sacked the Head Coach of the senior men’s national team, Otto Addo, with immediate effect, following a run of disappointing results by the Black Stars.
The decision comes on the back of a series of uninspiring performances, including recent defeats to the Austria national football team and the Germany national football team in international friendlies, which raised concerns about the team’s form and preparedness ahead of the World Cup.
In a brief statement announcing the decision, the GFA expressed appreciation to Otto Addo for his service and contribution to Ghanaian football.
“The Association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours,” the statement said.
Otto Addo, who previously led the Black Stars through key international assignments including the 2022 FIFA World Cup, departs at a critical time as the team intensifies preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
His exit signals a shift in technical direction as the Association seeks to address performance concerns and rebuild confidence within the squad.
Ghana faces a challenging task in group L of the World Cup, where they are set to take on the England national football team, Panama, and Croatia.
The GFA indicated that it will, in due course, communicate the new technical direction of the Black Stars, including the appointment of a new head coach, as preparations intensify for the tournament.
The decision to part ways with Otto Addo underscores the urgency within Ghana’s football administration to reverse the team’s recent struggles and position the Black Stars for a stronger showing in upcoming international competitions.
