The Accra-Tema Motorway expansion project is expected to be completed by August 2, 2027, following the settlement of all outstanding debts owed to contractors working on the development.

The assurance was given by the project Manager, Engineer Ben Sackey, during an on-site inspection led by the Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, on Tuesday, March 31.

The Roads Minister confirmed that there are currently no plans to extend the project timeline.

“We have not programmed for an extension, so we are trusting that we can maintain the same completion date of August 2, 2027,” the project manager said during the inspection.

However, contractors highlighted challenges that could potentially delay the project. One major issue is the relocation of utility lines, which they described as a complex task that could affect the schedule if not managed efficiently.

The reconstruction and expansion of the Accra-Tema Motorway began on January 2, 2024. The 19.5-kilometre project, which involves a 10-lane stretch from the Tetteh Quarshie Roundabout to the Tema Roundabout, has since stalled.

Despite these concerns, project officials remain confident that with proper coordination, the roundabout will be completed on time, providing much-needed relief to commuters and improving traffic flow in the busy Accra junction.
