The Upper West Regional Police Command has dismantled a drug trafficking network, arresting several suspects and seizing large quantities of suspected narcotics across the region.

Over the past four weeks, coordinated operations targeted key transit points and communities, including Eremon in the Lawra District, Nadowli Barrier and Loho in the Nadowli-Kaleo District, Charke and Siriyiri in the Wa Municipality, Hamile in the Lambussie District, and Funsi in the Wa East District.

Police recovered 218 compressed slabs, 54 parcels, and eight assorted consignments of substances believed to be Indian hemp.

In a statement, Upper West Regional Police Commander DCOP Francis Yiribaare said, “Over the past four weeks, the Command has recorded a series of narcotic seizures across multiple districts. The seizures comprised 218 compressed slabs, 54 parcels, and 8 other assorted consignments of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.”

He added that on April 1, 2026, officers at the Wa-Loho barrier intercepted a Royal VVIP bus traveling from Wa to Jirapa, discovering 51 compressed slabs.

Three suspects—Stephen Lomotey, Solomon King, and Urilius Tobopalee—were arrested in connection with the seizure.

Two days later, on April 3, a patrol team intercepted a Toyota Corolla at Eremon in the Lawra District, recovering 140 compressed slabs. Dennis Domoyel and Clovis Saame were arrested in relation to this seizure.

“In most cases, the substances were northbound toward Hamile for delivery,” DCOP Yiribaare said. “The suspects are at various stages of prosecution and investigation, while the vehicles are impounded.

“We caution transport owners and unions against allowing their vehicles to be used to courier illicit drugs, as they risk forfeiture and prosecution.”

The Regional Police Command assured the public of its continued commitment to fighting drug-related crimes and urged anyone with information to assist law enforcement.
