Commuters who use the Krofrom-Tafo Morro Market stretch in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region have raised concerns over the deteriorating state of a bridge that links the two areas.
During a visit by Citi News, the team observed that portions of the bridge are caving in, triggering panic among pedestrians and motorists who use the route daily.
Some of the commuters described the stretch as a “death trap”, noting that the bridge could collapse if not repaired quickly.
They called authorities to urgently intervene and fix the bridge to avert any disaster and restore safe passage.
“I saw this last week, and I don’t know why it is still unfixed. This is a busy road. They should not wait for it to get worse before they come and block the road,” a commuter told Citi News
Meanwhile the Unit Committee Secretary for Krofrom East Electoral Area, Acheampong Takyi Desmond said steps have been taken to repair the bridge as the Assembly Member has informed the city engineer about the development.
He added that, the Member of Parliament for Manhyia North, Akwasi Konadu has also been informed about the current of the bridge.
“He has been notified. The engineers came to the site to assess the damage. The feedback is that they are coming fix it for us,” he said.
