The Ministry of Energy has announced that the committee established to investigate the fire outbreak at the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) Akosombo Substation is expected to submit its findings within the next two weeks.
The substation was severely damaged after it was engulfed by flames on April 23, with the destruction of key infrastructure prompting urgent efforts to establish the cause of the incident and recommend measures to prevent a recurrence.
Providing an update on the progress of the investigation, the Energy Ministry’s spokesperson, Richmond Rockson, said the committee has been given a strict timeline to complete its work and present a comprehensive report.
According to him, the findings will be critical in guiding the next steps, including issues of accountability and policy direction.
Speaking in an interview with Bernard Avle on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, April 27, Rockson stressed the urgency attached to the probe, noting that authorities are keen on obtaining answers quickly given the scale of disruption caused by the incident.
“The committee has two weeks to do its work and submit its report.”
He also addressed questions on transparency and whether the final report would be made public once completed.
According to him, that decision would depend on the nature and sensitivity of the findings contained in the report.
“Depending on the nature of the report, you can make it public and sometimes, you may have to issue a white paper depending on the findings of the committee.”
