The Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has called for the full and smooth implementation of recently concluded Conditions of Service agreements for its members across key public institutions.
TEWU noted that the negotiations, though successful, were characterised by prolonged delays before being concluded between the last quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026.
In a May Day message issued by its General Secretary King James Azortibah on Thursday April 30, the union said it had successfully finalised negotiations covering staff of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB), Ghana Library Authority (GLA), as well as public and technical universities stressing that it expects nothing short of seamless implementation of the agreed terms to ensure industrial harmony across the country.
“What we want to stress here is that after the unfortunate long delays that characterised the negotiations before they were finally concluded in the last quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026, the union expects nothing but a smooth implementation of the provisions of the various Conditions of Service, to promote industrial harmony in the country”.
It warned that any attempts to frustrate members in the execution of the agreements would not be taken lightly, urging duty bearers to uphold and protect the dignity of Ghanaian workers.
“TEWU of TUC (Ghana) wants to state that any attempt to frustrate the union members, when it comes to the implementation of the Conditions of Service, will not be taken lightly. We expect that our duty bearers will guard against actions that undermine the dignity of Ghanaian workers.”
TEWU further emphasised that Ghanaian workers have consistently demonstrated commitment and sacrifice towards national development, but delays by authorities in providing the necessary resources and enabling environment continue to hinder optimal productivity.
The union also called on all social partners to live up to expectations and collaborate effectively to drive Ghana’s economic and social development.
“We therefore, on this 2026 May Day, call on our social partners to live up to expectations so that, together, we continue to move our dear country to the economic and social development height, we all desire”.
