The Chief of Asesewa, Nene Ofei Tagbadza, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to address the poor road network and water challenges facing communities in the Upper Manya District to ensure the success of the government’s 24-hour economy initiative.
Speaking at a sod-cutting ceremony for a 24-hour market project on Saturday, May 2, 2026, the chief described the project as a major step toward restoring the lost economic opportunity and pride in the area.
“This is not just a project, it is a restoration of dignity and a restoration of economic pride to Asesewa,” he said.
While welcoming the market project, Nene Tagbadza highlighted the poor state of roads in the district as one of the biggest obstacles to economic growth and agricultural development.
“Notable among the challenges we have here are our roads. The road network in Upper Manya District is something you have to take a look at so that we can make meaningful use of the 24-hour economy market when completed,” he said.
According to him, the district is home to several farming communities, and improving road access would make it easier to transport farm produce and other commodities to the market.
“The district can boast of a number of farming communities. So we are confident that when this market is completed, commodities and the essentials needed to transform this community will be easier for us if our roads are accessible,” he added.
The traditional ruler also drew attention to what he described as an unfair water situation affecting communities in the district.
“Again, the water that is pumped to Koforidua gets its source from some of the communities in Upper Manya. But these communities do not have a single water pipe,” he said.
“Meanwhile, this is the source of the water that feeds the regional capital. Mr President, we have a water challenge, which is a critical situation we face. We plead that your office will take a look at it for us,” he added.
The 24-hour market forms part of the government’s broader economic agenda aimed at boosting local commerce, agro-processing, and job creation across the country.
