Member of Parliament for Sissala West, Mohammed Sukparu, has presented cheques totalling GHS500,000 to 365 students under his scholarship scheme as part of efforts to improve access to education in the constituency.

The presentation formed part of this year’s Sissala West MP’s Teachers Awards, an initiative instituted to recognise excellence in teaching while supporting students and retired educators in the district.

Addressing participants at the event, he highlighted the persistent challenges confronting education delivery in the area, particularly the shortage of teachers and high attrition rates.

“We do not have enough teachers. Among those who are posted here, many do not stay. They come for a short while and find their way out,” he stated, adding that the children of Sissala West deserve better educational opportunities.

Beyond the scholarship disbursement, Sukparu also presented financial support of GHS2,000 each to selected retired teachers in recognition of their years of dedicated service to education development in the district.

The event also saw Adamu Balubuo Yussif of Wasai Basic School adjudged the overall best teacher. He received a table-top refrigerator, a 43-inch television set, a motorbike and a laptop, and dedicated the honour to his students and fellow educators, describing teaching as a sacrifice-driven profession focused on shaping the future.
