Energy Analyst Benjamin Nsiah has called for a more expansive and far-reaching investigation into the controversial Power Distribution Services Ghana Limited (PDS) scandal, urging authorities not to limit the ongoing probe to only a few individuals.
His comments come in the wake of recent developments involving the arrest of four individuals linked to the alleged disappearance of GH¢850 million belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
The arrests have reignited public discourse around accountability, transparency, and the full extent of the irregularities surrounding the PDS deal, which has remained one of the most contentious episodes in Ghana’s energy sector in recent years.
Speaking in an interview with Citi News, Benjamin Nsiah emphasised that while the arrests mark an important step forward, they should not signal the end of the investigative process.
Instead, he believes the development should serve as a starting point for a much broader inquiry that examines the roles of multiple actors across various institutions.
According to him, limiting the investigation to only a handful of suspects risks overlooking the systemic and potentially coordinated nature of the alleged wrongdoing.
He stressed the need for investigators to cast a wider net to include both direct and indirect participants who may have contributed to the questionable transactions tied to the PDS arrangement.
“It is of critical importance to some of us in the CSO space that government has started a legal initiative to hold persons involved in the PDS saga accountable for their conduct during that particular period.
“And I think we must commend government for this initiative. I think that the then Minister of Energy must have persons also invited for investigation. And also even the persons at ECG and the MiDA must also have some larger scope of persons involved in various activities either directly or indirectly. I think that that will help unravel the seriousness of this organised crime in that particular regime.”
