The Director of the Secretariat of the Nkabom Collaborative, Pierre Brunache Jr., has encouraged young people to take advantage of opportunities within the agrifood sector to drive innovation and create sustainable jobs.

Speaking at the launch of the Nkabom Venture Quest Entrepreneurship Bootcamp Cohort 2 in Accra, he described agrifood as the “new gold” capable of transforming Ghana’s economy and improving livelihoods.

“The real gold of our time is not beneath our feet. It is all around us. It is in what we grow, what we process, what we eat, and how we nourish our people,” he said.

According to him, the initiative seeks to empower young people, especially women and persons living with disabilities, through education, entrepreneurship, research, and industry collaboration.

He urged participants to develop innovative solutions that will improve food systems, reduce waste, make healthy food affordable, and create opportunities across the agricultural value chain.

Also speaking at the event, the Deputy CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme, Joan Selasie Ahiawordor, reaffirmed government’s commitment to youth entrepreneurship and agribusiness development.

She said agriculture remains one of Ghana’s biggest opportunities for economic transformation despite challenges including low productivity, post-harvest losses, inadequate financing, and limited technology adoption.

She added that innovation and startup growth remain critical to creating sustainable jobs for young people and boosting Ghana’s economy.
