The Western Regional Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with a shooting incident that resulted in the death of one person at a mining site at Gwira Ampansie in the Nzema East District of the Western Region.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, May 26, the Police said the deceased, identified as Angu Mensah, 45, an Abusuapanyin of Gwira Ampansie, was shot during a misunderstanding at the site.
The six suspects, comprising three Ghanaians and three Chinese nationals, have been identified as Hamza Abubakar, 36; Hamidu Seidu, 42; Francis Biewose, 26; Bai Yaozheng, 36; Liu Gang, 43; and Wen Xien Wen, 45.
According to the Police, a distress call was received by the Axim Police on Sunday, May 24, at about 1:20 p.m. regarding a shooting incident at the mining site.
Personnel from the Axim Police Command, together with the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate, were immediately deployed to the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a misunderstanding occurred at about 11:45 a.m. between the deceased and some individuals at the site. During the altercation, one Alfred Sadick, also known as “Strongman,” allegedly shot the deceased in the chest.
The Police said the six suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations. Efforts are also underway to arrest the suspect, Alfred Sadick.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Axim Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
“The Command is appealing to anyone with credible information on the whereabouts of the suspect to contact the Regional Police Command or Axim” the statement said.
