Residents of the Kumasi Metropolitan Area and surrounding communities are expected to experience temporary interruptions in water supply as the Barekese Water Treatment Plant undergoes critical maintenance works from Tuesday, June 9, to Thursday, June 11, 2026.

In a statement issued on June 5, 2026, Ghana Water Limited (GWL) announced that repair works will be carried out on the transmission pipeline at the Barekese Water Treatment Plant to safeguard its integrity and ensure the continued reliability of water supply services.

According to GWL, the treatment plant will be shut down from 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, until 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, to facilitate the maintenance exercise.

The company explained that the repairs are necessary to enhance the reliability and sustainability of water service delivery across the Ashanti Region.

“The repair works are critical to safeguard the integrity of the transmission pipeline and ensure its continuous and reliable operation,” the statement noted.

GWL has therefore advised residents and businesses in Kumasi and adjoining communities to store adequate quantities of water ahead of the shutdown to minimise the impact of the temporary disruption in supply.

The utility provider expressed regret for any inconvenience the maintenance works may cause and assured customers that water production and distribution will resume immediately after the repairs are completed.

Ghana Water Limited also appealed to the public for patience and cooperation throughout the maintenance period.

The company encouraged customers to follow its official communication channels for updates on the exercise.
