The Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, has announced plans by city authorities to deploy sanitation guards, popularly known in local parlance as “Nsamansaman,” across communities in the metropolis from July as part of intensified efforts to improve sanitation.

The Mayor expressed concern over what he described as the persistent indiscriminate dumping of refuse into drains by some residents despite ongoing arrests and prosecutions of sanitation offenders.

Speaking in an iinterview with the press on Monday June 8, Mr. Ofori Agyemang Boadi said he will lead sanitation guards to the communities as part stringent measures to ensure residents comply with sanitation regulations.

He stressed that the deployment of the sanitation guards forms part of broader efforts to address poor sanitation practices and protect the city from environmental and public health risks.

”So far, we have sent about 26 to court, but there are still recalcitrant ones. We are not giving up. We will work until we instill discipline. From the 1st of July, we will bring back the Nsamansaman that we used to experience in Kumasi.
