A 27-year-old man has been sentenced to four years in prison for stealing musical instruments belonging to a church in Hohoe in the Volta Region.

The Volta North Regional Police Command announced that Mohammed Rafiu was convicted after pleading guilty to charges of unlawful entry and stealing.

According to a police press release issued on June 9, 2026, the incident occurred on June 5 when Rafiu was spotted near the Faith International Ministry Church carrying a sack filled with various items while attempting to hail a vehicle.

Witnesses reportedly became suspicious of his actions and approached him to inspect the contents of the sack.

The search revealed several church-owned items, including an amplifier, an equalizer, a mixer, and a crossover machine.

Police said the suspect was subsequently arrested and taken to the Hohoe Police District, where he admitted to the offences during investigations.

Mohammed Rafiu was arraigned before the Hohoe Circuit Court on Monday, June 8, 2026, where he pleaded guilty to two counts.

The court convicted and sentenced him to three years’ imprisonment for unlawful entry and four years for stealing.

The sentences are to run concurrently, meaning he will serve a maximum of four years in prison.
