The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has begun investigations into concerns raised over the quality and quantity of meals served under the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) at Buaduyili Primary School in the Nanumba North Municipality of the Northern Region.
This follows media reports highlighting complaints by parents and teachers about the food being provided to pupils under the programme.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, June 9, the Ministry said it has taken note of the concerns and assured the public that the government remains committed to ensuring that all beneficiary children receive adequate, nutritious and quality meals in a safe and conducive learning environment.
It stressed that the Ghana School Feeding Programme remains a key social protection intervention aimed at reducing hunger among school children, improving school enrolment and attendance, and enhancing the nutritional well-being of pupils nationwide.
The Ministry, in collaboration with the GSFP Secretariat, said it has initiated investigations to establish the facts surrounding the reported incident. It added that appropriate sanctions will be applied to any individual or entity found culpable after the probe.
“In line with this commitment, the Ministry, in collaboration with the Ghana School Feeding Programme Secretariat, has initiated investigations into the matter to ascertain the facts and determine the circumstances surrounding the reported incident. Appropriate sanctions will be applied to any individual or entity found culpable following the outcome of the investigation,” the statement said.
Government, through its Reset Agenda, is also implementing measures to strengthen the programme, improve financing, monitoring and implementation, and ensure efficiency, accountability and quality service delivery.
The Ministry further cautioned that any action or omission that undermines the objectives and integrity of the programme will not be tolerated.
It called on Regional and Zonal Coordinators, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, community leaders, the media, parents and the general public to support monitoring efforts and promote transparency and accountability.
MoGCSP reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the School Feeding Programme and ensuring it continues to support the growth, development and education of Ghanaian children.
