Revna Biosciences and the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons (GCPS) have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish collaborative training, research, and capacity-building initiatives aimed at strengthening laboratory medicine and clinical research infrastructure in Ghana. The agreement was formally executed in April 2026.
The partnership brings together one of Africa’s emerging precision medicine and clinical research institutions with Ghana’s premier postgraduate medical training institution to jointly develop structured fellowship training, research collaboration, and professional development programs for laboratory medicine professionals.
A Partnership Designed Around Training and Research Capacity
Under the agreement, RevnaBio and GCPS will collaborate on laboratory medicine training, research, professional development, and knowledge exchange through supervised rotations, joint research initiatives, conferences, scientific publications, and grant opportunities. The partnership is expected to strengthen Ghana’s clinical research and diagnostics ecosystem while helping develop the next generation of laboratory medicine specialists.
Bridging Clinical Training with Advanced Diagnostic Infrastructure
The partnership provides Fellows and trainees with hands-on exposure to globally aligned laboratory systems across molecular diagnostics, genomics, microbiology, digital pathology, and biobanking through structured, competency-based rotations at RevnaBio’s Accra facility. Training incorporates biosafety, ISO-aligned quality systems, documentation practices, and supervised assessments designed to develop both technical excellence and professional rigour.
A defining feature of the programme is Fellows’ exposure to ROBIN, RevnaBio’s AI-assisted digital platform. ROBIN supports digital slide analysis and pathology interpretation among globally. As AI becomes increasingly central to laboratory practice, this exposure provides a meaningful and forward-looking dimension to the training programme that few institutions on the continent can currently offer.

Building Sustainable Clinical Research Infrastructure
Beyond laboratory training, the agreement establishes a long-term framework for collaboration in clinical research, institutional capacity development, and scientific evidence generation. The partnership will support joint grant applications, collaborative research initiatives, policy-focused publications, and research dissemination activities aimed at improving healthcare delivery and informing medical practice within Ghana and across the region. The agreement incorporates governance structures covering operational oversight, data protection, intellectual property management, and collaborative supervision, providing a durable institutional foundation that extends well beyond the initial training programme.
Speaking on the partnership, Dr. Derrick Edem Akpalu, Co-Founder & CEO of Revna Biosciences said, “This partnership reflects something we have believed from the beginning: that precision medicine in Africa must be built in Africa, with African talent, trained to global standards. The Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons is the right institution to build that future with, and we are proud to formalize that commitment today”.
In the same vein, Dr. Sylvia Anie, Board Chair, of Revna Biosciences shared, “This partnership is in line with the key objectives of Revna Biosciences. We have always believed that building world-class medical capacity in Ghana requires investing in the people who will deliver it. Working with the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons gives us the right platform to do exactly that, and to do it at a standard that the next generation of Ghanaian laboratory medicine specialists deserve.”
Additionally, Prof. Richard Adanu, Rector, Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, noted, “Precision medicine represents the future of clinical practice, and it is critical that Ghana’s specialist physicians are not only aware of that future but trained to lead it. This MOU with Revna Biosciences creates a structured pathway for that to happen, grounded in rigorous quality systems, advanced diagnostic infrastructure, and a shared commitment to building Ghana’s clinical research capacity for the long term.”

A Structured Roadmap
The partnership will begin with a six-month pilot phase involving Fellows undergoing structured rotations across RevnaBio’s laboratory and research platforms. Following an evaluation of the pilot phase, both institutions plan to expand the initiative through broader research collaboration and deeper integration between postgraduate medical training and precision medicine infrastructure. The agreement has been established for an initial five-year term, with the option for renewal upon mutual agreement.
