Commuters stranded after collapse of bridge on Mampong-Ejura highway

Economic activities on the Mampong-Ejura highway have come to a halt following the collapse of the Sataso bridge in the Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti region.

The bridge caved in on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, following several hours of heavy rainfall.

At the time of the incident, construction work was still ongoing on the structure.

This marks the second time the bridge has caved in, raising concerns about the quality and pace of the reconstruction work.

The stretch serves as a critical link between Mampong and Ejura.

Its collapse has brought vehicular movement and the transport of goods to a complete stop, affecting traders, commuters, and farmers who depend on the route.

Motorists are now forced to use longer and unsafe alternative routes, increasing travel time and cost.

Some residents were seen at the scene assisting commuters to cross the road using a makeshift, temporary route.

Residents and road users are appealing to the government and contractors to fast-track a permanent and durable solution to end the repeated disruptions.
