Regulate Pragyia operators to curb rising accidents — Nkwantakesehene

Nana Boakye Yam Ababio, Nkwantakesehene, has called for the regulation of tricycle operations, popularly known as Pragyia, in the Ashanti Region, citing growing concerns over road safety and a rise in accidents linked to their activities.

Nana Boakye, who chaired the Kumasi Traditional Council meeting in the absence of the Asantehene, made the appeal when he addressed the Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene, on Friday, June 12. He raised concerns over what he described as the poor handling of tricycles within communities, a situation he said is contributing to frequent accidents.

According to him, formal regulation of the operations would help bring order into the system and ensure compliance with safety standards. He noted that the introduction of sanctions for misconduct would also guide operators to act responsibly.

The visit was accompanied by the Mayor of Kumasi Richard Ofori Agyeman other regional and municipal officials, as well as some health authorities.

He stressed that the manner in which Pragyia operators handle their machines is worrying, describing them as careless and warning that failure to act could worsen the situation.

“Is no regulatory body in the country that can control the operations of these people? I will urge the Honourable Minister and the Kumasi Mayor, if they can get a taskforce to control them so that the frequent incidents of accidents in the town can be minimized,” he said.
