The Ayawaso North Municipal Assembly has commended the Clean Up Accra initiative spearheaded by Zoomlion Ghana Limited in collaboration with Channel One TV and the Ghana Police Service, describing it as a timely intervention to reduce flooding and curb sanitation-related diseases.

The Assembly said the exercise aligns with ongoing national efforts to improve environmental cleanliness and address persistent waste management challenges.

Speaking during a clean-up exercise at Pig Farm, the Municipal Environmental Health Officer, Richard Donkor, noted that the initiative supports government interventions aimed at tackling sanitation issues across flood-prone communities.

He explained that the area was identified due to its vulnerability to flooding, which informed the decision to prioritise the clean-up exercise in the municipality.

“We have flood hotspots within our municipality, and that is what informed us to embark on this exercise,” he said.

He stressed that sustained community participation and regular desilting of drains were necessary to prevent future flooding and associated health risks.

On his part, the Ayawaso North Municipal Manager of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Stephen Krah, expressed satisfaction with the level of community involvement in the exercise.

He encouraged residents to take greater responsibility for maintaining clean surroundings, noting that environmental cleanliness cannot be achieved by institutions alone but requires collective effort.

The Clean Up Accra initiative continues to engage communities across the capital as part of broader efforts to improve sanitation and reduce environmental hazards.
