Ludwig Teye Totimeh, Tema West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has urged traders and residents at the Texpo Market to prioritise their health by taking advantage of free health screening and HIV/AIDS sensitisation services being provided within the municipality.

The MCE made the call during a community health outreach programme organised by the Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA) in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service, non-governmental organisations, and community groups.

Addressing traders, shoppers, traditional leaders, and health workers, Mr. Totimeh said regular health screening remained critical to the early detection and treatment of diseases.

He noted that good health was essential for individual well-being, productivity, and national development, stressing that many health conditions could be effectively managed when detected early.

Mr. Totimeh expressed concern that despite advances in healthcare and increased access to treatment, many people remained unaware of their HIV status, making testing an important component of disease prevention and management.

He described regular HIV testing as an act of personal responsibility that enables early diagnosis, timely treatment, and improved health outcomes.

The MCE also cautioned against stigma and discrimination associated with HIV and AIDS, saying fear of social judgment often discouraged individuals from seeking testing, counselling, and treatment services.

He urged residents to support efforts aimed at promoting awareness and encourage people to access available health services without fear.

Mr Totimeh commended the health professionals, volunteers, and partner organisations involved in the outreach programme for bringing essential healthcare services directly to the people.

He particularly praised the participation of male traders in the exercise, noting that men often recorded lower turnout rates during health screening programmes.

The outreach programme offered free health screening services and education on HIV prevention, testing, and treatment as part of efforts to improve public health outcomes within the municipality.
