The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has ordered a full investigation into the death of a 20-year-old University of Cape Coast (UCC) student, Innocentia Avinu, who was reported missing and later found dead on a beach in Cape Coast.
The directive follows police confirmation that the Level 200 student’s body was discovered days after she was declared missing, with investigations now underway to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
In a statement issued on Sunday, June 14, the Ministry described the incident as deeply distressing and called for calm as security agencies begin work to establish the facts behind the case.
The Minister further directed the management of the University of Cape Coast to work closely with the Ghana Police Service to support investigations and provide any relevant information that could assist in uncovering what led to the student’s death.
The Ministry also extended condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and the university community, urging the public to allow the investigative process to proceed without interference.
