The Eastern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has held a crucial meeting with the Chinese developers behind the controversial China Mall project in Koforidua and their local representatives as authorities intensify efforts to address growing concerns surrounding the development.
The meeting comes amid heightened public scrutiny of the project, which has dominated discussions in the Eastern Region following allegations that the developers failed to comply with directives issued by the Regional Security Council.
The China Mall project, which is under construction in Koforidua, has attracted significant public interest due to concerns raised by local traders, residents, and some stakeholders regarding its operations and compliance with regulatory requirements.
These concerns prompted REGSEC to intervene and assess the project’s adherence to established procedures and directives.
As part of measures to enforce compliance, REGSEC recently ordered the temporary closure of the construction site and issued a stop-work notice to the developers.
Despite the order, security officials observed activities continuing at the project site, a development that further heightened tensions between the developers and authorities.
Subsequently, National Security operatives carried out a raid at the construction site, which had been declared a restricted area pending further directives from the authorities.
During the operation, six workers were arrested for allegedly working at the site despite the stop-work order and restrictions imposed by security agencies.
