Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew and head coach Carlos Queiroz have assured President John Dramani Mahama of the team’s full readiness ahead of their World Cup opener in a motivational Zoom call with the Presidency.
Speaking to the squad and technical team from his office on Wednesday, June 17, President Mahama said the entire country was praying for the team and believed in their ability to deliver.
He praised the team’s improvement during recent friendly matches, describing them as important preparation that should now translate into a strong performance against Panama.
He urged the players to unite and play with purpose, noting that the Black Stars remain a symbol of national pride and African football excellence.
The President also expressed confidence in the current squad’s ability to blend effectively under the captain’s leadership and called on them to draw inspiration from past legends such as Asamoah Gyan and Stephen Appiah.
Mahama further backed the head coach, saying despite joining the team late, he had shown enough potential to guide the side to victory. He added that Ghanaians would stay awake to watch the match at 11pm and would be praying throughout the 90 minutes.
In response, the Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew assured the President that the team was fully prepared for the challenge and determined to secure victory. He acknowledged the pressure but insisted the players were focused on delivering three points and making the nation proud.
The head coach, Carlos Queiroz also expressed confidence in the squad, saying the players were ready and fully aware of their responsibilities. He thanked the President for the encouragement, describing it as a major morale boost ahead of the crucial fixture.
