The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has inaugurated a 20-member Greater Accra Public Lands Protection Taskforce to strengthen efforts aimed at safeguarding state lands in the region.

The taskforce, made up of representatives from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the Lands Commission, the Ghana Police Service, and the Ghana Armed Forces, is expected to enhance monitoring, inspection, and surveillance of public lands across Greater Accra.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, June 18, Armah-Kofi Buah described the protection of public lands as a national priority, stressing that such lands are strategic assets meant to support development, infrastructure expansion, and the delivery of public services.

He raised concerns over the increasing rate of encroachment on state lands, warning that illegal occupation continues to result in significant losses to the government.

“I officially inaugurated the Land Protection Task Force, commencing critical operations in the Greater Accra Region,” he said.

He noted that the task force has been mandated to monitor, inspect, and protect public lands across the region, respond to reports of encroachment, and support the enforcement of lawful directives on land use and protection.

The minister further urged members of the taskforce to discharge their duties with professionalism, fairness, and integrity, emphasising that their core mandate is to protect all state-owned lands.

“Operating with full enforcement backing, the task force is charged with continuous monitoring, rigorous inspection, and active surveillance across the region,” he added.
