A swift response by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) averted a major disaster after a fire broke out in a kitchen of a three-storey residential building at Spot-M Lumba Down in Ofankor.
Firefighters from the Amasaman Municipal Fire Station rushed to the scene on Thursday, June 18, 2026, following a distress call and found the blaze raging in a kitchen on the first floor of the building.

The team, led by Assistant Divisional Officer I (ADOI) Theodore Tagbor, managed to contain the fire before it could spread to other parts of the building and subsequently extinguished it completely.
Although the fire destroyed the kitchen and its contents and caused partial damage to the living room, firefighters succeeded in salvaging the ground, second and third floors, along with most of their contents, thereby preventing extensive damage to the property.

No injuries or fatalities were recorded in the incident.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established and remains under investigation, according to a statement issued by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on Saturday, June 20, 2026.
