Team Lead of the Ghana Partnership for Jobs and Economic Transformation Programme (Ghana Jet), Eugene T. Sangmortey, has announced that Ghana is set to begin the local production of industrial fasteners, including bolts, nuts and springs, in the third quarter of 2026, marking a significant step in the country’s industrialisation drive.
The development he stated is being spearheaded by a Ghanaian company with support from the Ghana JET Programme and international investors.
According to him, the initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen local manufacturing capacity and integrate players in the informal, semi-formal and formal sectors into Ghana’s growing industrial ecosystem.
Speaking on the theme “Driving Ghana Forward: The State of the Automotive Assembly Industry and Its Contribution to the Economy” on Thursday, June 25, he noted that stakeholder engagement remains central to the programme’s strategy, stressing that preparations are being made not only to address current industry needs but also to position local businesses to take advantage of future opportunities in manufacturing and automotive assembly.
He revealed that the upcoming production facility has received investment backing from British International Investment (BII), enabling the company to establish local manufacturing capabilities for products that are currently imported into the country.
“We don’t know the integrity of some of those materials, and they can break apart when a vehicle is travelling at around 80 kilometres per hour. However, these products will be manufactured with the quality standards. They are going to produce and supply them to the mining, oil and gas, automotive, and other sectors,” he stated.
He further expressed concern about the widespread use of uncertified components sourced from informal markets, warning that the quality and integrity of such materials are often difficult to verify and can pose safety risks when used in vehicles and industrial equipment.
Mr. Sangmortey assured of the locally manufactured products meeting the required certification standards and are expected to supply key sectors of the economy, reducing dependence on imports while improving product quality and reliability.
The Ghana JET programme, funded by the UK Government’s Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office facilitates interventions in policy, investments, and ecosystem development to stimulate economic complexity and diversity in Ghana, increase productivity, and create sustainable jobs.
