Aspiring constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region have called on the party’s leadership to intensify efforts to foster unity within its ranks ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The appeals were made during the ongoing vetting process for constituency executive positions in the region, where several aspirants emphasised that internal cohesion remains critical to the party’s electoral fortunes.

They argued that the NPP’s ability to reclaim power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2028 will depend largely on how well it addresses internal divisions.

Speaking to Citi News, an aspiring Constituency Secretary for Asawase, Mohammed Jarah, described the current situation in the party as one that requires urgent unifying leadership.

He said disunity among members has contributed to the party’s declining performance in recent elections and warned against the introduction of ethnic or tribal considerations into internal party politics.

“What the party needs now is a figure that will demonstrate competent leadership to bring all these personalities to rally behind one person who will emerge victorious,” he said.

Mr. Jarah also clarified his relationship with the former Parliamentary Candidate for Asawase, Manaf Ibrahim, stating that there was no tension between them. He further described himself as a unifying figure within the constituency, adding that he maintains strong working relationships with key stakeholders, including Mr. Ibrahim, former municipal leadership, and the current constituency chairman.

Also speaking after his vetting, an aspiring First Vice Chairman for the Asawase constituency, Matthew Amissah, said disunity remains the party’s “major problem” at the constituency level.

He claimed that the incumbent Member of Parliament, who is also the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, is facing increasing internal pressure, although he remains a strong political force in the area.

Mr. Amissah added that previous attempts by the NPP to unseat the MP have been unsuccessful, but expressed confidence in the party’s future prospects if unity is strengthened.

In a related development, the aspiring Constituency Secretary for Manso Adubia, Antwi Prempeh Joseph, stressed that internal cohesion among executives is essential for the party’s return to power in 2028.

He said the NPP’s ability to rebuild and succeed in future elections depends on collaboration and discipline among party members.

Meanwhile, the aspiring Deputy Constituency Secretary for Manso Adubia, Eric Kyei Baffour, called for greater youth participation in party activities, adding that he would promote teamwork to strengthen the party’s grassroots mobilisation.
