Kennedy Agyapong’s comments breach party loyalty rules – Haruna Mohammed

The Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has stated that comments attributed to former presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong go against the party’s loyalty and conduct rules as outlined in its constitution.

Kennedy Agyapong, speaking to journalists on Tuesday, June 16, alleged that the erstwhile administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo failed to make meaningful progress on the Afari Military Hospital project during its eight years in office.

Following his comments, a party member petitioned the leadership of the NPP to initiate disciplinary proceedings against him, citing what he described as repeated public attacks on the party and its members.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Friday, June 26, Haruna Mohammed said the comments under review are considered to have undermined party unity and fall short of expected standards of conduct for members, particularly in relation to loyalty and public discipline.

According to him, the remarks contradict key provisions of the party’s constitution, which require members to uphold party decisions, act in good faith, and consistently promote and defend the good name of the party.

“What I do know is that these petitions are pertaining to the recent issues and comments, more especially the two important comments that were made, one of which was in defiance of the party’s constitution, which states that every member has to abide by and publicly uphold the decision of the party, and also to promote and defend the good name of the party, and be loyal and truthful to the party.

“So, in this particular instance, one of the comments has gone against about three strands of the party’s constitution,” he said.

Meanwhile the National Disciplinary Committee has been given two weeks to investigate petitions.
