Ghana’s governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has signed a cooperation agreement with Russia’s ruling United Russia party, with both sides pledging to deepen political ties and expand inter-party collaboration across Africa.
The agreement was signed in Saint Petersburg on June 25, 2026, during a working meeting of the Standing Committee of the For the Freedom of Nations! Movement.
The accord followed talks between Andrei Klimov, a member of the Supreme Council Bureau of United Russia, and the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia.
According to a statement, the two parties acknowledged the growing engagement between Ghana and Russia at the parliamentary level and agreed to strengthen cooperation between their respective political organisations.
Dr Asiedu Nketia highlighted Russia’s historical role, as the successor state to the Soviet Union, in opposing colonialism and reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to the principles and objectives of the For the Freedom of Nations! Movement.
The parties also agreed to promote closer cooperation among political parties across Africa, with particular emphasis on West Africa.
They further underscored the importance of strengthening political engagement ahead of the third Russia–Africa Summit, describing it as an opportunity to deepen cooperation between Russia and African countries.
The agreement marks a further step in political engagement between the NDC and United Russia, building on the broader diplomatic and parliamentary relations between Ghana and Russia.
