Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has bid farewell to Ghana following the team’s exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, urging sweeping reforms to safeguard the long-term future of Ghana football in a reflective parting message..
In a message after Ghana’s Round of 32 defeat to Colombia, the Portuguese tactician said he was leaving with a sense of pride but also with the belief that the Black Stars have the potential to achieve even greater success.
“I leave this journey with pride in what we achieved, but also with the healthy dissatisfaction of those who always wanted more. Reaching a higher level should never be the destination, it should be the beginning of even greater ambitions,” he said.
Looking beyond the World Cup, Queiroz stressed that Ghana’s football ambitions would only be realised if equal attention is given to strengthening the structures that support the national team.
He argued that success should begin away from the pitch through better planning, preparation and investment in player development.
“The future of the Black Stars will not be built only on the pitch. Success must start off the field, by creating the best possible environment to prepare, protect and develop Ghana’s extraordinary football talent.”
Describing the World Cup campaign as a valuable learning experience, Queiroz said setbacks should inspire improvement rather than discourage progress.
“Football, like life, teaches us one timeless lesson: you either win or you learn.”
The Black Stars coach also expressed appreciation to the Ghana Football Association for entrusting him with the national team.
“To my President and Board, thank you for the opportunity to serve the Ghana National Football Team. It was an honour and privilege.”
He reserved special praise for his players and technical staff, thanking them for their dedication and commitment throughout the tournament.
“To my players and staff, my deepest gratitude for your courage, commitment and dedication.”
In his message to Ghanaians, Queiroz acknowledged the disappointment of the team’s World Cup exit but maintained that the Black Stars had regained respect on the international stage.
“To the fans, we cannot claim complete sporting satisfaction, but we can proudly say that we honoured the colours of Ghana and restored respect and credibility to the Black Stars on football’s greatest stage.”
