MTN Ghana has reinforced its commitment to supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by awarding GHS150,000 in grants to five outstanding businesses during its World MSME Day Business Pitch competition.
The competition, organised under MTN Business’ year-long SME Accelerate Programme, brought together 10 promising Ghanaian businesses to pitch their ideas and showcase their potential to drive innovation, create jobs and contribute to economic growth.
The 10 finalists were 10-10 Foodie, Awhenepa Cookery, Edible Treats, House of Lush, Manehlla Foods, Tahir Field Recycling, Tropical Snacks, Bubune Africa Limited, Dyluri Beauty, and Lebenam Skin.
At the end of the pitching session, Tahir Field Recycling, Edible Treats, Dyluri Beauty, Manehlla Foods, and Tropical Snacks emerged as the top finalists, with each business receiving GHS30,000 in grant funding, bringing the total cash awards to GHS150,000. The winners also received MTN business solutions and digital support packages to help accelerate the growth of their businesses.
Although Tahir Field Recycling and Edible Treats recorded the highest scores in the competition, MTN awarded all five top finalists equally, underscoring its commitment to empowering a broader range of SMEs with the resources needed to scale their operations.
The remaining finalists—10-10 Foodie, Awhenepa Cookery, House of Lush, Bubune Africa Limited, and Lebenam Skin—received GHS2,000 each, along with MTN products and business solutions, including the Y’ello Biz Router, MiFi devices, Business Eye solutions and other digital tools designed to support their digital transformation journeys.
Speaking at the event, Senior Manager for SME Sales, Partnership and Business Broadband at MTN Ghana, Mohamed Abubakar Siddiq, said the Business Pitch forms part of MTN’s broader commitment to recognising and supporting SMEs for their immense contribution to Ghana’s economy.
“SMEs play a pivotal role in creating jobs and driving economic growth in Ghana. At MTN, we hold this segment in very high esteem because we understand the challenges and opportunities that come with building a business. Through initiatives such as the Business Pitch and the SME Accelerate Programme, we are committed to empowering entrepreneurs with funding, digital tools and business education to help them thrive,” he said.
Siddiq added that the five winners will also benefit from MTN’s Mini MBA Programme, a 13-week intensive business training programme being implemented in partnership with Nova Business School. The programme is designed to equip entrepreneurs with practical business management skills and prepare them to compete on a global scale.
Founder and CEO of Tahir Field Recycling, Tahir Pumar, expressed appreciation to MTN and its partners for the support, describing the grant as a significant source of motivation.
“This recognition shows that hard work and consistency eventually attract support. The funding will enable us to increase production, grow our business and create more employment opportunities for young people,” he said.
The MTN World MSME Day Business Pitch forms part of MTN Ghana’s efforts to champion entrepreneurship and empower SMEs through funding, digital solutions, mentorship and capacity-building initiatives, recognising the sector’s critical role in driving inclusive economic growth and job creation in Ghana.
