Two people have reportedly been killed and two others injured following a confrontation between police officers and residents at Sefwi Sayerano in the Western North Region.
The incident occurred when officers from the Sefwi Wiawso Divisional Police Command reportedly entered the community to arrest a suspected drug peddler.
Speaking to the media, Okyeame Kwaku Ortiz, an eyewitness, said the police conducted a search at a provision shop belonging to the suspect after alleging that he was selling tramadol. He however, claimed the officers found no narcotic substances during the search but proceeded with plans to arrest him.
The attempted arrest reportedly sparked resistance from some members of the community, leading to a confrontation between the residents and the police.
Witnesses alleged that the police opened fire during the ensuing disturbance, resulting in multiple casualties.
The two deceased were confirmed dead at the scene, while two others sustained gunshot wounds and fractures and are receiving medical treatment. The condition of another victim could not immediately be confirmed.
